art for the revolutionary optimist
MANIFESTO
through the arts, we begin to see ourselves in ways that make the individual feel less capitalistically alienated. when engaging with the arts, we commiserate & celebrate with people who share this amicable feeling of dread. by participating in the arts, we become that which we’ve always known: essential.
we are a group of artists across a seascape of mediums and origins, with the shared goal of socially and politically reinforcing the arts as a trade & service necessary to improve the material conditions of the working class & our humanity. this publication is shared, operated, edited, and published by artists. we are united by skilled labor, artistic necessity, and the call for all peoples to be liberated from the oppression of capitalism.
the below statements are measures we follow:
- praxis is practice
- all labor is skilled labor
- the arts are a universal language
- no artists’ choice is made without critique
- there is no “high” or “low” art; we honor every medium
- the collective unionizing of artists is inevitable & foreseeable
Decisive Organs Magazine aims to dismantle the institutional blockade surrounding art and bring resources hoarded by said institutions back to the people. we hope to restore societal and literal value to arts education and artistic practice. we welcome the shifting landscape of the art space and hope to generate community solidarity as the mechanisms of our various practices change. our unionization is inevitable should we expect to continue freely practicing our art. in order to build the world we deserve, we follow the measures proposed above.
